Samba Foundation lift the Hanlon Stevenson Cup – we were right there with them!
On Tuesday 21st May 2025, Celsius Plumbing and Heating were proud to support The Samba Foundation FC (who we proudly sponsor) as they took on the Hanlon Stevenson Foundation in a special charity match at Easter Road, the home of Hibernian FC raising funds for the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.
The inaugural Hanlon Stevenson Cup wasn’t your typical friendly. The HSF squad fielded a team of former Hibs legends, including Darren McGregor, Ian Murray, and Derek Riordan, making it a proper test for our Samba lads.
In blazing sunshine, The Samba Foundation came out flying. Darryn Cain coolly slotted the opener after a slick move, and Kyle Barrett doubled the lead before half-time after capitalising on a defensive slip.
HSF pulled one back late in the second half, but Samba weren’t done yet. A sharp one-two between Kyle Barrett and our very own Managing Director, Michael Cairns, led to a brilliant cross that eventually found Robbie Simpson for the third.
The real highlight? Michael’s outrageous goal-line clearance that sealed the win, seriously, it could’ve been shown on Match of the Day, with current Hibernian FC club captain Joe Newell, who was in the HSF dugout, praised the effort.
Not bad for our managing director!
