£10,000 raised for Edinburgh Sick Kids hospital at charity football match.

Supporting local football and raising £10,000

Celsius Plumbing and Heating were happy to support The Samba Foundation FC (who we proudly sponsor) as they took on the star-studded Hanlon Stevenson Foundation recently in a special charity match at Easter Road, the home of Hibernian FC, raising funds for the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.

We were delighted to see Michael for pulling on his boots and give a standout performance, and even prouder to sponsor The Samba Foundation FC, a team that gives back to the community in such a meaningful way.

A total of £10.000 was raised in a variety of ways (football scratch cards, pound for pound matching by various employer firms, justgiving page etc).

The inaugural Hanlon Stevenson Cup wasn’t your typical friendly.  The HSF squad fielded a team of former Hibs legends, including Darren McGregor, Ian Murray, and Derek Riordan, making it a proper test for our Samba lads.

I really enjoyed that, what an achievement by everyone involved and to raise £10,000 for such an amazing charity makes this really special!

The match report!

In blazing sunshine, The Samba Foundation came out flying.  Darryn Cain coolly slotted the opener after a slick move, and Kyle Barrett doubled the lead before half-time after capitalising on a defensive slip.

HSF pulled one back late in the second half, but Samba weren’t done yet.  A sharp one-two between Kyle Barrett and our very own Managing Director, Michael Cairns, led to a brilliant cross that eventually found Robbie Simpson for the third.

Moment of the game?  Michael’s outrageous goal-line clearance that sealed the win, seriously, it could’ve been shown on Match of the Day, with current Hibernian FC club captain Joe Newell, who was in the HSF dugout, praised the effort.  Not bad for our managing director!

We take home the Trophy!

Final score: 3-1 to Samba.  Trophy in hand, smiles all round, and a great cause supported.

We’re proud of Michael for pulling on his boots and giving a standout performance (he is getting on a bit, don’t tell him I said that), and even prouder to sponsor a foundation that gives back to the community in such a meaningful way.
