Samba Foundation lift the Hanlon Stevenson Cup – we were right there with them!

On Tuesday 21st May 2025, Celsius Plumbing and Heating were proud to support The Samba Foundation FC (who we proudly sponsor) as they took on the Hanlon Stevenson Foundation in a special charity match at Easter Road, the home of Hibernian FC raising funds for the Edinburgh Children’s Hospital Charity.

The inaugural Hanlon Stevenson Cup wasn’t your typical friendly.  The HSF squad fielded a team of former Hibs legends, including Darren McGregor, Ian Murray, and Derek Riordan, making it a proper test for our Samba lads.

In blazing sunshine, The Samba Foundation came out flying.  Darryn Cain coolly slotted the opener after a slick move, and Kyle Barrett doubled the lead before half-time after capitalising on a defensive slip.

HSF pulled one back late in the second half, but Samba weren’t done yet.  A sharp one-two between Kyle Barrett and our very own Managing Director, Michael Cairns, led to a brilliant cross that eventually found Robbie Simpson for the third.

The real highlight?  Michael’s outrageous goal-line clearance that sealed the win, seriously, it could’ve been shown on Match of the Day, with current Hibernian FC club captain Joe Newell, who was in the HSF dugout, praised the effort.

Not bad for our managing director!

I really enjoyed that, what an achievement by everyone involved and to raise over £10,000 for such an amazing charity makes this really special!

We take home the Trophy!

Final score: 3-1 to Samba.  Trophy in hand, smiles all round, and a great cause supported.

We’re incredibly proud of Michael for pulling on his boots and giving a standout performance, and even prouder to sponsor a club that gives back to the community in such a meaningful way.

Supporting local football and giving back – on and off the pitch

We’re incredibly proud of Michael for pulling on his boots and giving a standout performance, and even prouder to sponsor The Samba Foundation FC, a team that gives back to the community in such a meaningful way.

Funds were raised in a variety of ways (football scratch cards, pound for pound matching by various employer firms etc) but there is still time for you to help!

💙 Want to support the cause?  Donations are still open (as we write this short post) via this link on the Samba Foundation’s JustGiving page.  Please contribute if you can, every donation helps!
