MagnaCleanse flush your heating system

Based in Edinburgh and have a heating system that is slow to warm up or not performing like it used to? Whether you're searching for a central heating flush, radiator cleaning, chemical system flush, or sludge removal service in Edinburgh, a professional MagnaCleanse is the solution most heating systems need.

What is a MagnaCleanse system flush?

A MagnaCleanse system flush (often called a ‘chemical radiator flush’ or ‘central heating system flush’) uses magnetic filtration, vibration, and gentle circulation of cleaning chemicals to removes the sludge, rust, and the debris that restricts water flow from your radiators and central heating system.  This dramatically improves the efficiency of your heating system.

Compared to a traditional powerflush, MagnaCleanse is quicker, much less intrusive, and ideal for central heating systems and radiators with light to moderate build-up.

Our qualified heating engineers deliver fast, effective MagnaCleanse treatments across the wider Edinburgh area, helping homeowners get more from their heating without the need for a full powerflush.

Signs your heating system would benefit from a MagnaCleanse

Not sure whether a MagnaCleanse flush is right for you?  These subtle signs could point to early sludge build-up in your system:

  • Radiators not heating properly or just generally sluggish heating.
  • Rooms not feeling warm despite the boiler running.
  • Gurgling or banging noises from pipes or your boiler.
  • Brown or black water when bleeding radiators.
  • Rising energy bills despite normal usage.
  • Frequent boiler faults or error codes or needing regular boiler reapairs.

If any of these sound familiar, it might be time to MagnaCleanse your heating system.  Our heating engineers will assess your central heating and radiators and then advise on the best solution.

How the MagnaCleanse process works

A typical heating system flush includes a full MagnaCleanse treatment, circulation of specialist cleaning chemicals, and individually flushing each radiator to remove stubborn sludge.  Once cleaned, our heating engineers apply a long-life inhibitor to help prevent future corrosion or blockages.

Customers often describe the difference as night and day, radiators that barely warmed up before suddenly heat evenly and efficiently.  Check out what MagnaCleanse removed from previous jobs that show just how much sludge (that was stuck to the walls of your pipes and valves) can be removed in a single session.

  1. System check-up – we start by inspecting your heating system to make sure MagnaCleanse is the right approach.  If another type of flush is better suited, we’ll explain your options.

  2. Setting up the kit – our engineer connects the MagnaCleanse unit to your pipework and prepares the system for flushing.

  3. The detox begins – we add specialised chemicals that travel through your system, breaking down hidden sludge & rust build-up.

  4. Flush and capture – vibration technology helps shake loose debris, while powerful magnetic filters grab it all as it flows through.

  5. Long-term protection – once the water is clean, we add an inhibitor to help protect your system against future build-up and corrosion.

MagnaCleanse vs power flushing – which one do you need?

While both treatments improve heating performance, they work in different ways and suit different system conditions.

Think of MagnaCleanse like a detox for your heating system, perfect for maintenance and minor issues.  A power flush, on the other hand, is more like a full body cleanse, better for stubborn build-up and older systems.  MagnaCleanse is also not for underfloor heating systems.

  • MagnaCleanse is ideal for light to moderate build-up, offering a fast, low-pressure clean with minimal disruption.
  • A Power Flush is a more aggressive deep cleaning method that uses high-pressure water and is better suited to older or heavily sludged systems.

We’ll assess your system and recommend the right solution.  We don’t upsell, just honest advice based on what’s best for your home.

How the power flushing process works to clean your radiators and heating system.

Adding inhibitor chemicals after a MagnaCleanse system flush

After any type of radiator/heating flush, we always add central heating inhibitors.  This is a key step and serves two purposes:

  1. Prevents future corrosion – the inhibitor forms a protective film inside the system, helping to stop rust and sludge from forming again.
  2. Extends system life – by keeping water chemistry stable, the inhibitor reduces internal wear on your boiler, radiators, and valves.

Add a MagnaClean Filter for long lasting system protection

For best results, we recommend pairing your MagnaCleanse system flush with installation of an ‘Adey MagnaClean Filter’.  Think of it as your boiler’s best friend, quietly protecting your system behind the scenes.

This compact magnetic device is installed onto your boiler pipework.  As water flows through, it catches rust, sludge, and metallic debris before they can settle inside your boiler or radiators and that’s where most boiler breakdowns come from.

Your radiators and pipework will thank you for it and so will your wallet.  A filter isn’t just protection, it’s an investment.  It helps reduce the risk of breakdowns and extends the life of your entire heating system.

Benefits of a MagnaClean Filter

  • Captures residual sludge before it causes damage to your boiler.
  • Reduces the need for future flushing.
  • Helps limit boiler breakdowns.
  • Easily cleaned as part of your annual boiler servicing.
  • No disposable filters, just powerful magnets doing the hard work.

Once installed, it’s virtually maintenance free aside from a quick clean during your yearly boiler service.  No cartridges to change, no filters to replace, just reliable, long-term protection.

Installing a filter after your MagnaCleanse means you won’t need to worry about a repeat build-up any time soon.

We now that Edinburgh plumbers genuinely love it when they arrive and see a magnetic filter on a boiler, it means adding chemicals in future can normally be done quicker and easier, saving you time and money.

Protecting your boiler warranty

Many boiler manufacturers like Worcester Bosch and Ideal Boilers now require your system to be flushed during installation or servicing in order to maintain the warranty.  If you’re unsure whether this applies to your boiler, our team can check for you.

We’ll make sure that any central heating system flush that we coinduct complies with manufacturer standards so your warranty stays valid.

How long does a MagnaCleanse take?

Most MagnaCleanse treatments take 2 to 4 hours, Microbore 8mm systems may take a bit longer.  Depending on the size and type of central heating system you have, it may take a whole day.

Is MagnaCleanse better than a power flush?

Not necessarily, they serve different needs.  MagnaCleanse is best for light to medium build-up.  For severe blockages, a power flush may be more effective.  Sometimes we even combined MagnaCleanse with powerflushing on really dirty sludged up systems.

How often should I MagnaCleanse my system?

Every 5 years is typical, but this depends on usage and water quality.  Our heating service engineer can advise during your annual boiler service.

Is this covered in a boiler service?

No, this is a separate service.  However, we can book it alongside your boiler service.

Do I need a MagnaClean Filter?

Not essential, but highly recommended, a MagnaClean Filter protects your boiler and heating system long term with barely any maintenance and helps avoid future problems.

Can MagnaCleanse damage my heating system?

MagnaCleanse is generally a very safe and gentle way to clean your central heating system, especially compared to high-pressure power flushing.  However, like any deep clean, it can sometimes reveal existing weaknesses in your system.

In rare cases, the vibration used to dislodge sludge may expose poorly installed radiators, causing them to shift from their brackets.  Similarly, older radiator valves or pipework connections might begin to leak if they were already fragile.

Our heating engineers always carry out a system assessment before starting the flush, but cannot spot everything that’s hidden in walls and under floors.  If we spot anything that could be at risk, we’ll flag it before proceeding.  While we can’t guarantee older systems won’t react during or after the flush, we always take care to carry out the work as safely and smoothly as possible.

Which is better - a MagnaCleanse flush or a powerflush?
