Raising awareness around drinking water safety
We’ve spoken before about protecting your home’s water supply, especially when backing initiatives like the lead-free campaign.
In reality, safe drinking water in your home comes down to the basics being done properly from day one. How your system was installed, the materials used, and who carried out the work all play a part. If something’s not quite right, it’s not always obvious. These are the kinds of issues that can quietly sit there until they start causing real problems. If you haven’t already, it’s worth reading our article supporting the lead free campaign.
What is the WaterSafe Register?
Put simply, it’s a national register of approved plumbers who are qualified to carry out plumbing work on drinking water systems. That includes everything connected to your supply, from the incoming mains pipe to the plumbing inside your home, right through to taps and appliances.
It’s not about heating or boilers – it’s about the water you’re actually using every day.
Why have they changed the name to ‘WaterSafe Register’?
The update is really about making things clearer for homeowners. The name has changed to WaterSafe Register, and the branding has been updated to match. Before the change, it was felt the name WaterSafe didn’t fully explain what the organisation actually did. Unless you already knew about it, it wasn’t immediately clear that it was a register of approved plumbers. That’s what this update aims to fix. By adding the word Register, it becomes much more obvious that this is a trusted list of vetted professionals, similar to Gas Safe Register.
For homeowners, that clarity matters. It makes it easier to recognise who’s properly qualified to carry out plumbing work on drinking water systems, without having to second guess it.
But beyond that, everything else stays the same. The standards haven’t changed, the qualifications are still as strict, and the same approved plumbers remain on the register. It’s still fully backed by UK water companies and regulators. So whilst the name is new, the level of protection behind it hasn’t changed at all.
Why using a WaterSafe Approved plumber matters
This is where it really matters for your home. Choosing a WaterSafe approved plumber isn’t just about ticking a box. It’s about knowing the work on your plumbing is being done properly, with your water supply in mind.
💡 Not sure if everything has been done properly?
Most homeowners don’t know if the plumbing in their home has been installed to the right standard. If something doesn’t feel quite right, or you just want peace of mind, we can take a look and let you know.
Protects your drinking water
If plumbing isn’t done correctly, there’s a risk of contaminants getting into your water without you even realising. A WaterSafe approved plumber understands how to carry out the work in a way that keeps your water clean and safe.
Meets UK plumbing regulations
There are strict rules in place when it comes to plumbing work on drinking water systems, and for good reason. A WaterSafe approved plumber knows exactly what those regulations are and how to follow them properly. It means the work isn’t just done, it’s done to the right standard from the start.
Helps avoid problems down the line
Not every plumbing issue shows up straight away. Things like backflow or poorly installed pipework can sit unnoticed for a while before causing real problems. Getting it done properly first time round makes a big difference and helps avoid those issues creeping in later.
Gives You Peace of Mind
At the end of the day, you just want to know the job’s been done right. Using a WaterSafe approved plumber means you don’t have to second guess anything. You know your plumbing and your water supply are in safe hands.
